The blockade took place in Sampaloc, Manila, at the intersection of Espaa Boulevard and Blumentritt Street. There were slew of posters with written slogans related to labor demands on Labor Day.

The staff in the jeeps allegedly wanted to walk to the front of the University of Sto. Thomas, where many groups of workers had congregated. Around Espaa Boulevard, MPD officers flagged down several white vans in addition to the jeepneys.

Workers’ organizations have planned a protest for Labor Day 2021 in Manila’s Liwasang Bonifacio neighborhood, which will begin at about 9 a.m. Staff and labor organizations oppose what they say is a lack of funding for Filipino workers.

The Kilusang Mayo Uno chose Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila, the Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino in Mendiola, and the Nagkaisa Labor Coalition chose People Power Monument in Nagkaisa. In the afternoon, however, everybody will band together in an online rally. Employment, help, vaccinations, citizenship, and freedom are among their demands.
