Six Senators Want NTF-Elcac Defunded, Budget Used In Pandemic Response
SENATORS WANT NTF-ELCAC OUT – Six Senators expressed their desire to have the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict defunded.
Currently, a budget of P19B is allocated toward the department. On a Tweet, Senator Joel Villanueva said:
“Oh my! We should move to defund NTF-ELCAC in the next budget. Sayang lang pera ng taong bayan…
Reallocate the current P19B budget for ayuda. Mas kailangan ito ng taumbayan kaysa sa mga ganitong kalokohan”
Recently, NTF-Elcac spokesperson Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr was under fire for his statements on community pantry initiator Ana Patricia Non. During an interview, Parlade likened non to Satan giving Eve an apple.
“Isang tao lang ‘yan ‘di ba? Si Ana, si Patricia ‘di ba. Same with Satan. Si Satan binigyan ng apple si Eve, doon lang nagsimula ‘yon,”
Not only did Parlade receive backlash from netizens, he also got it from Senator Risa Hontiveros and Sherwin Gatchalian. Both expressed that people such as Parlade don’t deserve the support of tax payer’s money.
Meanwhile, as a response to the critics, Parlade said that his office is merely “checking” to see the affiliations of organizers such as AP Non. But, because of this, several other organizers have seized operations of their community pantries in fear of being red-tagged.
