Brgy. Officials Solicit “Abuloy” for Elderly Man in Hospital Even It is Alive

Family of the elderly man confined in the hospital of Nueva Ecija air dismay after their barangay officials allegedly solicit “abuloy” despite being alive.

When the relatives of a man in a Nueva Ecija hospital heard that their barangay chief had instructed them to raise a “donation” for their patient, which is their father, despite the fact that he was still alive, they were urged to report it.

Elderly Man Abuloy

According to a report, Feliciano Fausto, of Barangay Baybayabas, Talugtug, Nueva Ecija, was hospitalized due to kidney disease. Fausto can be seen standing and walking while in the hospital in the video.

However, according to the patient’s daughter, Nely Fausto-Pangyarihan, a story was spread in their barangay that her father had died. Then they were allegedly requesting a donation order from the barangay chief.

“Nakakagalit po, masakit na masakit sa kalooban namin. Buhay pa po ang tatay namin inuutos na ng barangay captain namin na kumuha na ng abuloy,” Nely said she wanted to file a complaint against what their barangay official did.

When the patient’s condition reached the barangay chief’s office, Nelia Garillo allegedly ordered donations to be received. They acknowledged, however, that they were unable to verify whether the information obtained was accurate.

“Ang ginagawa namin, may kaunting contribution sila na hindi naman ‘yan pinipilit. May association dito sa barangay namin sa mga senior citizen kung halimbawa may namatay, may tulong na tig-P100,” said barangay captain.

The money will be returned to the barangays, she said. The Fausto family was encouraged by the Municipal Local Government Operation Office to go to their office and formally file a complaint against the barangay official who ordered the donation from the living person to be collected.
