ABS-CBN News Channel Airing Chinatown News, Ging Reyes Explains

ABS-CBN received criticisms for airing China News TV

News Senior Vice President Ging Reyes of the Kapamilya network explained the airing of Chinatown News on the ABS-CBN News Channel.

The online community, especially on Twitter, has been talking about the move of the ANC to cater to a Chinese news program. To recall, an issue surfaced between the Chinese navy and Kapamilya correspondent Chiara Zambrano. Reportedly, the reporter and her crew were harassed as they chased away for being at the West Philippine Sea.

The reporter received support from many netizens, in line with this issue, especially from those who have been supporting ABS-CBN.

However, just recently, ANC has aired the Chinatown News after that issue with Zembrano and the Chinese navy. This did not sit well with many netizens and so they criticize the decision of the Pinoy TV network to air a Chinese news program.

In line with this, Ging Reyes explained through her recent Twitter thread. She said that she understands the predicaments of Filipinos concerning the issues with China and ABS-CBN has been covering this issues with “pursuit of truth and public enlightenment”. However, the news chief said that they are “not discriminating ethnicity.”

Reyes stressed that the airing of Chinatown News on ANC is not equal to the intrusion in the West Philippine Sea. She added that the said news program is produced by the Filipino-Chinese community. “They are part of Philippine society. Rather than belittle their attempt to provide a service to their local community, it’s time we considered embracing the diversity of this land we all call home.,” the news chief said.

She also assured that they have the editorial control over the content of the news being aired, as well as the accuracy of the translation from Mandarin to English.
