DILG said that the barangay tanods linked to a curfew violator’s death in Calamba, Laguna will be held accountable.
Ernanie Jimenez passed away after he was allegedly mauled by two barangay tanods in Barangay Tubina for violating the curfew policy in the area. The victim went out to buy food around 10 ppm but it took him too long to come back.
The victim’s brother Gledien Jimenez followed his sibling when he saw his brother who suffered injuries after the village watchmen beat him. Ernanie suffered a cracked skull and bruises due to the incident last April 7.
The poor curfew violator has been rushed to the hospital but passed away on April 9 due to his injuries. However, the suspects denied the accusations and the barangay captain claimed that they do not believe in claim with no proof.
On Tuesday (April 13, 2021), the Department of the Interior and Local Government said that they will not tolerate the irresponsible action of the two village watchmen. The agency also assured the victim’s family that justice will be served.
“Ito po ay illegal act at hindi po natin papalampasin. We will make sure na makukulong po. We will file appropriate charges sa ating prosecutor and we will make them accountable for their actions,” Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said.
