Fake COVID-19 Vaccines Now Being Sold Online, FDA Warns Filipinos

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned the public to beware of fake COVID-19 vaccines being sold online.

On Tuesday (March 30, 2021), FDA Deputy Director General for Field Regulatory Operations Dr. Oscar Gutierrez Jr. urges the Filipino people to use only COVID-19 vaccines approved by the emergency use authorization (EUA).

Gutierrez advised the public to be meticulous and careful when choosing vaccines because criminals are already selling falsified and fake vaccines. He clarified that legitimate vaccines can’t be found online.

“I am sure that vaccines sold online are falsified and fake vaccines. They should not be patronized by anybody. Otherwise, they are only giving their money to the criminals,” Gutierrez said.

The FDA chief said that there are no fake vaccines yet in the country but preventing its entry in the Philippines would be a great relief to the public. He also said that legit vaccines are not for sale.

Currently, Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac Biontech, and Gamaleya Institute vaccines have EUAs in the country. Legitimate vaccines are being distributed and administered by the Health Department.
