Communications Secretary Martin Andanar released a statement over the result of his COVID-19 test amid the spike of cases in the Philippines.

Unfortunately, the Philippines is faced with a bigger battle now due to the spike of the COVID-19 cases in the country. Since last week, huge numbers of new cases of the disease were recorded daily. It followed the detection of new variants of the virus.

The pandemic has brought a lot of changes in the Philippines. Currently, the teachers deliver the lessons to the students through blended learning – with the use of modules and online classes. The national government has yet to give the Department of Education (DepEd) a go signal on the return of face-to-face classes.

The people are highly encouraged to follow the health protocols in the fight against the spread of the disease. Everyone must wear a face mask and practice social distancing when going outdoors.

The whole National Capital Region (NCR) and four provinces (Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal) are under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) now. The said strict measure will be implemented until April 4, 2021.

Vaccinations are already ongoing. The Philippines received donated vaccines from China and the COVAX facility. The medical frontliners are the top priority in the vaccination drive.

According to Andanar, he will continue to work while recovering from the disease. He also reacted to rumors that he broke travel restrictions. The Communications Secretary expressed that he would not violate the protocols for the safety of everyone.
