Pres. Duterte Speaks About Mayors Who Received COVID-19 Vaccine

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte named the mayors who did not follow the COVID-19 vaccine priority line set.

The Philippines is currently on a tough battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. Huge numbers of fresh cases of the disease were recorded in the past days. The pandemic is existing for more than a year now.

In PH which is one of the over 200 countries and territories that logged cases of the coronavirus disease, several changes took place. The people now must wear a face mask when going outdoors. Physical distancing is also highly encouraged.

Aside from a face mask, most establishments like shopping malls, pharmacies, and grocery stores also require a face shield. Some also implements a limit on the capacity.

Amid the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic now, the vaccination program has started. The top priority are the healthcare workers who are considered as the frontliners in the fight.

However, there were local government officials including several mayors who received the COVID-19 vaccine. The move received backlash from people as they did not follow the priority line set. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, even Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was disappointed as he cited that those that donated the vaccines have conditions that must be abided with.

Pres. Duterte said that the World Health Organization (WHO) gave countries the list of the priority for the vaccine. Based on the report, the following are the mayors who received the vaccine as cited by the Chief Executive:

  • Minglanilla, Cebu Mayor Elenito Peña
  • Alicia Town. Bohol Mayor Victoriano Torres III
  • San Miguel, Bohol Mayor Virgilio Mendez
  • Lila Town, Bohol Mayor Arturo Piollo II
  • Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez
  • T’boli, South Cotabato Mayor Dibu Tuan
  • Sto. Niño, South Cotabato Mayor Sulpicio Villalobos
  • Legazpi City, Albay Mayor Noel Rosal
  • Bataraza, Palawan Mayor Abraham Ibba

According to the President, the mayors justified that they want to set an example to their constituents. The Chief Executive stressed that whether or not the officials jumped in the priority line, a legal study is needed.

“Tinanggap natin ‘yan [donated COVID-19 vaccines], knowing fully well that we have to honor the conditions attched thereto,” the President said.
