CEBU TOWN MAYOR – Minglanilla Mayor Elanito Peña claimed that he is a frontliner amid backlash after he received COVID-19 vaccine.

The fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the Philippines continues. There are still threats of the disease thus everyone is highly encouraged to observe the health protocols.

Part of these protocols are the wearing of face mask when going outdoors and the practice of social distancing. Most public establishments also require face shields upon entry.

Currently, community quarantine measures are still present in the country. The whole National Capital Region (NCR) and four (4) provinces such as Laguna, Rizal, Cavite, and Bulacan are under the NCR Plus bubble which has additional restrictions.

The COVID-19 vaccination program has already started, Philippines received donated vaccines from other countries. The health workers who are considered as the frontliners in the fight against the spread of the disease are the top priority.

However, there are issues surrounding the priority vaccinations in certain areas. In Cebu, many people reacted to the vaccination of a Cebu town mayor despite the order of priority which do not yet include the local officials on top.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Minglanilla Mayor Elanito Peña received COVID-19 vaccine. According to the Cebu town mayor, he is also a “frontliner”.

Mayor Peña further expressed that he wants to be an example to his constituents who have hesitations over getting vaccinated. According to him, he asked the permission of the health unit in his town.

The Public Information of Minglanilla has already taken down the photo of the Mayor when he got the vaccine. It earned a lot of backlash from the public.
