Malacañang Announces Placing of Some Areas in PH Under GCQ

MALACAÑANG – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved to put some areas in the Philippines under GCQ with additional restrictions.

Currently, the COVID-19 pandemic remains to be the biggest challenge that the Philippines is facing. Unfortunately, last week, high numbers of new coronavirus cases logged daily hit the records.

It’s around a year now since the fight against the coronavirus pandemic started. It brought a lot of changes in the country. Now, everyone must wear a face mask and practice physical distancing when going outdoors. The local government units (LGUs) have set sanctions for those who will disobey the rules amid the fight.

Also, most establishments including shopping malls, grocery stores, and pharmacies require a face shield aside from a face mask upon entry. The entrance of these establishments also require temperature check and the submission of personal contact details.

Furthermore, the delivery of lessons to students is under blended learning now or through modules and online classes. Face-to-face classes are still prohibited most especially now that new variants of COVID-19 were recently detected.

Community quarantine measures are still up in the Philippines now as the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Recently, Malacañang revealed the areas that will be under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with additional restrictions for two (2) weeks.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved to place the following areas in PH under GCQ:

  • National Capital Region (NCR)
  • Bulacan
  • Cavite
  • Laguna
  • Rizal

Based on the report, there will be a “bubble” in the aforementioned areas as the people can travel freely within the said areas but they are not allowed to go out. Also, people living outside the said areas are not allowed to enter NCR, and the 4 provinces.

Measures in GCQ Areas:

  • Only essential travel into and out are allowed. But public transportation will remain operational at such capacities and protocols already approved.
  • All mass gatherings, including religious gatherings, are prohibited. 
  • The holding of face-to-face meetings are highly discouraged.
  • Holding of weddings, baptisms, and funeral services are limited to 10 persons.
  • The private sector is enjoined to adopt similar alternative arrangements as those already in place in the executive branch of government, i.e. 30 – 50 percent operational or on-site capacity.
  • Dine-in restaurants, cafes and establishments shall be limited to delivery, take-out, and any outdoor or al fresco dining shall be allowed, provided that additional engineering and administrative controls are put in place.
  • Visiting persons outside their immediate family or other households is strongly discouraged.
  • Even at home, the wearing of masks for the elderly and the vulnerable and for the rest of the household is strongly advised.
