PNP COVID-19 Death Toll Increased This Week Says OIC Eleazar

PNP COVID-19 DEATH TOLL – The number of police officers who succumbed to the deadly coronavirus increased this week.

According to a statement from PNP Officer in Charge Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, a 54-year-old officer from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) died on Thursday, March 18. Furthermore, Elezar noted that the officer experienced breathing issues leading to his admission in V. Luna Medical Center (VLMC) in Quezon City.

But, prior to this, investigations determined that the officer manifested symptoms for COVID-19 two weeks prior to his hospitalization. However, he merely took over the counter medicine for his fever and cough.

Due to his breathing issues, the medical team attempted to conduct CPR to revive the officer at around 11:30 a.m. Unfortunately, the attending physician pronounced him dead at around 11:59 a.m., merely 20 mins after admission.

“The police officer was subjected to a swab test upon admission on March 18, which resulted POSITIVE for COVID-19“, Eleazar noted.

Currently, the PNP has documented 12,898 COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the outbreak. Of that number, 1,239 are classified as active cases. Meanwhile, 11,642 have already recovered from the virus with 35 deaths.
