Survery Says Numbers of Filipino People Eating Leftover Foods Increased Due to COVID-19 Pandemic
PHILIPPINES – The numbers of Filipino people eating leftover foods reportedly increased amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Since last year, the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect millions of people all around the world. The respiratory disease even took thousands of lives and causes a severe health crisis worldwide.
The health crisis causes a huge impact to the global economy and displaced thousands of Filipino people. Most of them have been left struggling with their finances.
The Social Weather Stations or SWS survey conducted a survey last September 2020 and reported that around 7.6 million households were struggling with food. Most people were not having enough food on their tables.
A less-fortunate Filipino identified as Tatay Ben only relies on leftover foods or commonly known as ‘pagpag”. He said that last year, he could still eat some decent foods from leftovers but the pandemic makes it harder for poor people like him to eat.
Tatay Ben revealed that most of the leftovers are nearly bones and not useful anymore.
