Boracay LGU Implements Changes in Visitor Acceptance to the Island

BORACAY – The tourists who will be visiting the island will be required to undergo a saliva test as decided by the authorities.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought a lot of changes in the Philippines and as well as other countries that recorded cases of the coronavirus disease. In fact, the situation in the country now has yet to return to normal.

Since the pandemic began, people are advised to stay indoors as much as possible. Also, traveling even just from one city to another is not the way it is amid the community quarantine measures imposed. There were months when several cities in the country are under stricter measures.

Undeniably, summer 2020 was different from the previous summers. Most people stayed at home instead of being in beach resorts and other tourist spots.

Currently, several tourist spots and resorts are already open but under a strict practice of the health protocols. One of those that already accepts tourists is the famous Boracay Island in Aklan.

Meanwhile, there are still requirements in visiting Boracay. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, amid the existing threats of the COVID-19 pandemic, a saliva test is required from tourists who will visit the island.

The said COVID-19 testing was approved by the Inter-Agency Task Force in the island provided that it must be administered by the Philippine Red Cross and other accredited laboratories.

Based on the report, the Department of Tourism is also ready to fund the machines needed in case the local government of Malay, Aklan would desire so. The DOT also recommended to the IATF to allow individuals under 15 years of age and 65 years old and above to visit the island.

The Department stressed that the island is under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) provided that the minor or senior who will visit the island has a valid plane ticket.
