Full Capacity In Private Hospitals Possible Amid COVID-19 Case Surge
FULL CAPACITY – The Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines (PHApi) warned of a possible full capacity situation amid the recent surge in coronavirus cases.
According to PHAPi president Dr. Jose Rene De Grano, new projections suggests that Manila could see a spike of 5,000 daily cases at the end of March. With this, hospitals could become overwhelmed more than last year’s surge.
During an interview with ANC he said:
If we don’t do anything about it then most probably if you follow the trend, maybe in the next three or four weeks, is this not abated, then we’ll be reaching the full capacity in the next four weeks
Earlier, Dr. De Grano said that the recent spike in coronavirus cases could be due to the presence of new COVID-19 strains. Additionally, the reopening of the economy and the easing of restrictions could also have contributed to the surge.
Furthermore, he explained that several nurses have already resigned to work abroad or for the government. “So even if we want to serve, let’s say, 25% of our bed capacity, if our manpower complement can only serve one half of that, then that’s the only number of beds that we will be able to serve“, he added.
