Aklan Government Still Requires QR Code to Tourists Entering Boracay Island

The local government of Aklan still requires QR Code as one of the tourists’ requirements to be able to enter the island of Boracay.

According to Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores, apart from presenting a negative RT PCR swab test, and hotel bookings, QR Code in Boracay is still required. The QR Code is available on the Aklan province website at www.aklan.gov.ph

Recently, the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) announced the use of the S-Pass by the Department of Science and Technology for locally stranded individuals returning home in their respective provinces.

According to Miraflores in a press conference, only QR Code and negative RT PCR test, along with hotel bookings, will be recognized by visitors to Boracay. It is said that the use of the QR Code has been recognized and tourists visiting Boracay are accustomed to it, especially this summer.

According to the Malay Tourism Office, about 800 tourists are now visiting Boracay, from different parts of the country. Meanwhile, The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Malay, Aklan has already begun the process of passing a law for the “permanent ban” of tourists entering the island resort using a fake negative COVID-19 RT PCR test result.

According to the Aklan Provincial Government, up to 105 tourists have been caught violating safety and health protocols such as not wearing a face mask. As many as 30 people were caught using fake RT PCR tests.
