Rookie Policeman Accidentally Kills Inmate In San Luis, Aurora
AURORA – A rookie cop was recently disarmed after accidentally killed an inmate who was watching TV in San Luis town, Aurora province.
Police Brig. Gen. Valeriano T. de Leon, director of Police Regional Office 3, has ordered Aurora police director Col. Julius Lizardo to place the cop, identified as Police Patrolman Christian Torres, under restrictive custody.
The cop was being investigated for the accidental firing that killed inmate Christian Gabral, aged 30.
PRO3 spokesperson Police Lt Col. Soledad Elefanio, reported that Torres went in front of the detention cell, drew his issued short firearm, and allegedly toyed with it. The firearm went off and struck Gabral, who was watching TV at that time.
Gabral sustained a bullet wound in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
“If found guilty, he will be meted with both administrative and criminal charges. We do not condone any irregularities of our personnel,”
Based on the report, De Leon also ordered to subject the cop to a drug test. The Provincial Internal Affairs Service will also conduct a motu propio investigation regarding the incident.
