A glimpse of Helen Gamboa and Tito Sotto’s love story
Veteran actress Helen Gamboa recalled the time when she and her husband Senator Tito Sotto eloped.
The couple who among the well-respected personalities in the entertainment industry have been together for 52 years now. They have a very sweet love story and Helen was gracious enough to share a few details.
Talking to Philstar’s Ricky Lo, Helen Gamboa said that their elopement happened at around 2 a.m. She said that she asked for a sign whether she and Tito were meant to be together or not.
“‘Lord, if we are not meant for each other, please give me a sign.’ There was no sign. Hindi nagising ang mama at papa ko. Aba, nakalabas ako ng sliding door ng walang ingay. We had four dogs and not one barked. So we were really meant for each other. It was really meant to be,” the veteran actress shared as she was feeling restless and nervous at that time.
Tito was waiting outside of their house and she almost fell when she had to climb over the fence. Like a knight in shining armor, the love of her life caught her.
After that, they went to Sto. Tomas and they were already carrying the required documents in getting married. However, at that time, the judge that was supposed to marry them was abroad.
“Fortunately, Tito had a kumpare who knew the parish priest who married us,” Helen shared. Their happily ever after did not come after that because Tito Sotto returned his wife to her parents.
Helen Gamboa’s parents agreed with their relationship with one condition. “I would live at our home and Tito at his home but he could visit me M-W-F. So he started courting me again, visiting me at our home. He would even watch over me on the set during my shoot, at andoon din ang mama ko. So I had two guards,” the veteran actress shared.
From that, Tito started to court Helen again and after two years they got permission to live together and they got married again. That was the first time they had their honeymoon.
