Speaker Velasco Expresses Support to NEDA’s Proposal to Shift Entire Country to MGCQ in March 2021

Speaker Lord Allan Velasco expressed support for NEDA’s proposal to shift the entire Philippines to MGCQ next month.

Earlier this week, the National Economic Development Authority proposed of shifting the entire country to modified general community quarantine status by March 2021 to address the hunger in the country.

Neda chief Karl Kendrick Chua explained that the move aims to allow the companies and establishments to operate again after the strict lockdown to give job opportunities to displaced workers.


Chua said that the proposal also aims to resolve the increasing rate of hunger in the Philippines after the health crisis severely affects the global economy as well as the public’s health.

On Wednesday (February 17, 2021), Lord Allan Velasco backed the proposal of the National Economic Development Authority to place the Philippines under MGCQ but health protocols must be strictly observed.

“I personally agree with Neda’s proposal to place the entire country under MGCQ next month… It is about time we safely relax pandemic restrictions to lessen the impact of COVID-19 on the economy,” Velasco said.


He also encourages the public to patronize businesses because the COVID-19 vaccines are set to arrive.
