Filipino War Veterans Should Be Cautious from Updated Pension Scam
The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) has warned Filipino war veterans about the new modus operandi scam targeting their pension.
Based on the report of Remate, a system will call them from an unregistered number and pretend to update their pension validation with a replacement fee. PVAO said they were not authorized to conduct the transaction.
“Be reminded also that any services regarding validation of your pension status is free of charge. Do not allow yourself to be a victim of fraud,” PVAO reminded.
If veterans encounter the scam they can inquire with the Veterans Records Management Division (VRMD) at (02) 8912-4864 or (02) 8376-4106, and email address [email protected].
Meanwhile, the Senate is set to open an investigation into the fraudulent and unauthorized use of credit cards and other online bank transactions, according to Senator Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian.
In a statement, Gatchalian, vice chairman of the Senate committee on banks, financial institutions, and currencies, said it was necessary to investigate the shortcomings in the law that should provide protection to consumers against thieves.
