Religious Gatherings in GCQ Areas Approved by PH Government To Increase Venue Capacity Up to 50%

The Philippine government has allowed to increase the capacity for the religious gatherings up to 50 percent in GCQ areas.

On Friday (February 12, 2021), presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) approved the increase to 50% of venue’s capacity for religious gatherings only.

However, Roque clarified that the new measure is only applicable in areas under the general community quarantine. The increased capacity for religious gatherings would start on February 15, 2021.

“Starting February 15, pinapayagan na po ang religious gatherings up to 50% of the seating or venue capacity,” Roque said.

The IATF also approved to increase the venue capacity of traditional cinemas, parks and other leisure establishments up to 50 percent in GCQ areas but health protocols and quarantine guidelines must be observed.

Roque explained that the limits have been eased due to the decreasing cases of coronavirus disease. They also aims to provide livelihood for the displaced workers who lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

Areas including Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Batangas, Tacloban City, Davao City, Davao del Norte, Lanao del Sur and Iligan City are still under GCQ for the month of February 2021.
