Palace’s statement on religious gatherings under MGCQ

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated that religious gatherings are now allowed under the modified general quarantine (MGCQ) but it should be 50 percent of the venue.

The enhanced community quarantine was lifted in almost all the cities in the Philippines on June 1. That was the start of the GCQ or MGCQ implementation. During the ECQ, gatherings in churches were prohibited, especially in areas with tendencies to be much crowded.

During the press briefing on Thursday, Roque said that religious gatherings are now allowed with only 50 percent of the capacity of the venue. He said that the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for Emerging Infectious Diseases already approved this.

“Kahapon po, sa mga lugar na MGCQ, pupuwede na pong magkaroon ng mass gatherings para sa religious purposes pero po hanggang 50 percent lamang ng seating capacity,” the Presidential Spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, based on the Twitter post of CNN Philippines, Roque said that hotels, resorts, apartments, tourist inns, motels, pension houses, eco-lodges, condotels, B&B facilities can now operate for accommodation purposes.

Regarding the flights, Roque said that the Department of Transportation will implement the mandatory wearing of face masks, as well as other health protocols such as temperature checking, physical and social distancing.

He added that the IATF has revised the rules under the MGCQ in order for everyone to access outside their homes. However, those who are below 21 years old, over 60 years old, and pregnant women are still not allowed to go out unless they are APOR or authorized person outside residence.

The Presidential Spokesperson also has this remark on COVID-19 deaths: “Patuloy po ang numero ng mga namamatay dahil sa COVID-19 kung titingnnan ang pang-araw-araw na datos.”
