New Brazilian Amazon COVID-19 Strain 3x More Infectious Says Minister
BRAZILIAN AMAZON COVID-19 – According to the Health Minister of Brazil, the new strain of coronavirus found in the Brazilian Amazon was three times more infectious.
The variant has become an unexpected problem as it spreads like wildfire in the jungle city of Manaus. As such, second-wave infectious rise in numbers, says Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello.
However, he reassured law makes that even though it came unexpected, the new strain’s spread was now under control. Luckily, he emphasized that current COVID-19 vaccines were still found to be effective against the new strain.
Based on an article from ABS-CBN, he said:
Thank God, we had clear news from the analysis that the vaccines still have an effect against this variant…
But it is more contagious. By our analysis, it is three times more contagious.
Unfortunately, local media outlets failed to receive further information regarding the new coronavirus strain. Meanwhile, the Butantan Institute, couldn’t give their conclusion for the new variant for two weeks.
Currently, the world still struggles to cope with the coronavirus vaccine. Furthermore, a year into the pandemic, the virus now has several new strains such as the UK variant and the South African variant.
