P20 Million Worth of Fake Copper Masks Was Seized by NBI in Laguna

National Bureau of Investigation – National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) has seized P20 million worth of fake copper masks in Biñan, Laguna.

NBI-NCR on Thursday found stacks of boxes containing fake copper masks within an establishment in the city. Based on the report of GMA News, NBI personnel told the Chinese national inside the establishment that the masks seized were fakes.

“This copper mask, they are fake, okay? We are going to seize this. We have a court order, okay?” the NBI personnel told the Chinese national in the establishment.

Fake Copper Masks in Laguna

Authorities arrested the Chinese national and four of his employees. The arrested decline to give statement. Aside from the copper face masks, the NBI also retrieved packaged face filters, which were also fake.

Meanwhile, the NBI also seized fake copper masks from establishments in Binondo and Baclaran. One of the vendor admitted that they are selling fake masks, however, they only do this for living.

NBI-NCR Regional Director Atty Cesar Bacani said the manufacturer of the face mask filed a complaint at the agency. The Coppermask company, represented by their lawyers, complained that there were fake or unauthorized people imitating their product, he added.

“Itong ating complainant ng Coppermask Philippines, sila ‘yung authorized distributor or may legal authority… para sila lang ang magkaroon ng ganitong negosyo sa Pilipinas,” Bacani said.

Fake Copper Masks in Laguna

The legal manufacturer of the copper masks “The Copper Mask Philippines” warned the public to stop using fake face masks as it causes dangerous effects in your health.

“Hindi nila makukuha ‘yung proteksyon na ino-offer nung produkto ng Coppermask. Una, hindi natin alam kung ano ‘yung mga materyales na ginamit, kung dumaan ba to sa quality control,” Coppermask Philippines legal counsel Atty. Jobz Lazo said.

Authorities seized more than 60,000 pieces of fake copper masks in the operations. Individuals caught selling counterfeit copper masks will face charges for copyright infringement and unfair competition.
