Law Author Former Sen. JV Ejercito Advises Parents to Bring Child Car Seats in Taxis & TNVS

Law author said that parents can bring their own child car seats when riding taxis and transport network vehicle service.

On Friday (February 5, 2021), former Sen. JV Ejercito, principal author of Republic Act 11229 or Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act said that parents could bring their own child car seats in taxis and TNVS to ensure the Kid’s safety.

Ejercito said that the Department of Transportation will still the application of child restraint system in public utility vehicles such as jeepneys and buses. He prefer passengers with kids toi bring their own child car seats.

“Pero ‘yong sa taxis, they are already equipped with seatbelts. So, puwede na po silang gumamit ng car seat, sana po preferably meron na po ‘yong parents na sasakay ng halimbawa Grab or taxi,” Ejercito said.

The bill will require a restraint system for children who were at least 4.92 feet tall and could be recurred by a regular seat belt. The law prohibits kids 12 years and below from sitting in the front seat of private vehicles.

Violators would be charged a fine worth P5, 000 and suspension of driver’s license for a year. Car seat prices ranges from P2,000 to P25,000., which is expected to expire within five years.
