Many countries and territories are fighting the COVID-19 pandemic for around a year now. Unfortunately, amid the fight, a new variant of coronavirus was detected in United Kingdom (U.K.) and several other nations have logged cases of the said coronavirus variant.

Countries are implementing certain measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. There is a Canada cruise ship ban in the North American country to curb the spread of the disease.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Canada cruise ship ban is extended in February. It applies to vessels carrying over 100 people.

According to Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, the temporary travel restrictions to vessels carrying over 100 people “are essential to continue to protect the most vulnerable among our communities and avoid overwhelming our health care systems”.

Based on the report, the Transport Minister added that if the situation improves, the government may move to lift the Canada cruise ship ban. It was first implemented in April.

Since April 2020, the ban was extended several times as the fight against COVID-19 continues. It has greatly affected the port cities like Quebec, Vancouver, and Montreal.
