UK Starts Door-To-Door Testing As New Variant Spreads Rapidly

UK STARTS DOOR-TO-DOOR TESTING – Health authorities from the United Kingdom begin door-to-door testing of more than 80,000 residents as the new COVID-19 variant spreads.

Across the globe, countries have been monitoring the entry of the new virus strain from the U.K. Previously, it was said to only be more infectious. However, authorities have noted last month that there may be a possibility that the variant is actually deadlier than previous strains.

Meanwhile, within the U.K. itself, health authorities have begun what they call a “surge testing”. Now, whether or not you show symptoms of the virus, a test is required in a bid to contain the new variant.

As such, residents in 8 areas of the country will now be tested. According to an article from ABS-CBN, there are roughly 10,000 residents in an area. Three are in London, 2 in the southeast, 1 in central England, 1 in the east, and another in the northwest.

According to junior education minister Michelle Donelan, the spread of the new variant is “deeply concerning”. “It’s still a very perilous stage of this virus and we’ve got these new variants spreading”, she added.
