Price Cap on Pork and Chicken Products to Begin on February 8, Department of Agriculture Says
The Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to impose a price cap on pork and chicken products starting February 8, 2021.
On Tuesday (February 2, 2021), DA Secretary William Dar announced that the agency would impose price ceiling on pork and chicken products in the National Capital Region. The measure will only last for 60 days.
President Rodrigo Duterte approved the Executive Order (EO) 124, which is imposing a 60-day price cap on pork and chicken products amid the African swine fever crisis in Metro Manila.

The EO 124 impose a price ceiling on pigue and kasim at P270 per kilo, liempo at P300 per kilogram, and dressed chicken at P160 per kilogram. The price ceiling is to be supported by DTI Department of Trade and Industry, Department of the Interior and Local Government, as well as other departments.
However, William Dar clarified that the price ceiling only covers public or wet markets and not supermarkets. The price cap may be extended if recommended by President Duterte and Agriculture Department.

“Itong price ceiling na ito ay para lang sa public markets. Bakit hindi pa isama ang supermarket? Para may option naman ang mamimili,” Dar said.
He is also blaming the traders and wholesalers over the soaring prices of pork prices amid ASK outbreak.
