CBCP Willing To Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19 In Public To Gain Public Trust In Vaccine
CBCP WILLING TO GET VACCINATED – Top executives of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said they would be willing to get vaccinated in public.
According to the officials, they wanted to boost the confidence of the public in vaccines against COVID-19. Currently, more than half of Filipinos expressed distrust of the vaccine.
Based on a recent survey, 95% of Filipinos were aware of the development of the vaccines. However, only 32% were willing to be inoculated. Meanwhile, 47 percent were not.
As such, the CBCP said they wanted to ease doubts of the Filipinos regarding the virus. Furthermore, CBCP president Archbishop Romulo G. Valles said he would take any COVID-19 vaccine offered.
According to an article from GMA, Valles said:
If I can wait, then I’ll wait for a good vaccine. But if the situation really like it is now, you cannot wait for a better vaccine, I would take any vaccine offered
Meanwhile, CBCP vice president Bishop Pablo Virgilio S. David stated that molecular biologist and moral theologian Father Nicanor Austriaco explained even vaccines with 50% efficacy would be beneficial.
“Father Austriaco encouraged the bishops to allow themselves to be vaccinated publicly perhaps even on television so that we can encourage people and remove their fears of vaccination. This is really going to be very helpful for us as a country”, he added.
Experts from the World Health Organization said a country needs to have 65-75 percent of their population inoculated with the vaccine to achieve heard immunity.
