CBCP Wants Filipinos To Get Vaccine Against Coronavirus
CBCP ON VACCINE – The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) wants Filipinos to get vaccinated for COVID-19 when vaccine become available.
During a recent Pulse Asia study, a majority of Filipinos were concerned about the safety of new COVID-19 vaccines. As per the study, 47% of Filipinos said they did not want to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
However, the CBCP Officer on Bioethics chairman and Tuguegarao Archbishop Ricardo Baccay, emphasized how the vaccines would be the only way to end the outbreak in the country.
According to an article from Manila Bulletin, the Archbishop said:
We urge our government and the private organizations who have helped fund the procurement of the COVID-19 vaccines to commit themselves to a single vaccine distribution plan that prioritizes medical frontliners and those who are most at risk for COVID-19
But, he noted that each person should be left free to decide whether or not they want to be vaccinated. Baccay added that it would be up to one’s “conscience with full awareness of the obligation to protect oneself from being an instrument of contagion and the further spread of the virus“.
