Department of Agriculture Seeks Price Ceiling on Pork Products Due to Rising Costs

Department of Agriculture Seeks President Duterte’s Approval to Impose Price Ceiling on Pork Products

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is seeking a price ceiling on pork products due to the soaring prices of pork meat.

The agriculture department is asking President Rodrigo Duterte to approve the price ceiling on pork products to as low as P270 per kilogram as its prices continue to increase over the past few months due to the African swine fever.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar said that the agency is already taking action to stabilize the price of pork meat in the National Capital Region. He explained that the price ceiling could help stabilize both pork supply and prices.

“We are working with the Palace to consider what we call a price ceiling for pork, now that we’ve reached P400 per kilo in the market, Our recommendation to the Palace is for the President to approve a price ceiling of P270 for pork kasim and P300 for pork liempo,”Dar said.

Currently, the prices of pork liempo are being sold at P400 to P450 per kilo. The suggested retail price of pork meat is at P260 and P290 per kilogram.

The soaring prices of pork products was due to the shortage in supply caused by the African swine fever especially after the disease affect Visayas.
