Cold storage facilities are being prepared for COVID-19 vaccines, which are expected to arrive by the second or early third quarter of the year, according to Inquirer.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said that the facilities will be placed in vaccination centers which would be set up in strategic areas in the province.

“We are buying additional equipment that can store vaccines up to negative 70 degrees,”

The provincial government signed an advance purchase agreement for 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca for 50,000 people.

Secretary Carlito Galvez, who is the country’s vaccine czar, said that the national government would provide free COVID-19 vaccines to 70 percent of the Philippne population, based on the report.

Earlier, Lacson said that the government is filing complaints at the National Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases over two COVID-19-positive Negrenses who hid their travel history.

The two Negrenses, both reside in the municipality of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, are among the five repatriates from the United Kingdom, where the new and more transmissible B117 SARS-CoV-2 variant came from, who skipped the mandatory swabbing in Manila.

The two are under strict quarantine as their swab tests were sent to the Philippine Genome Center for analysis to determine if they have the new variant.
