MMK Apologizes for Offending Muslims After Using Sacred Praying Mat as Door Mat
“Maalaala Mo Kaya” or MMK apologized for offending Muslims after using the sacred praying mat as door mat on the latest episode goes viral.
On Saturday’s episode, January 9, the life story of actor JC Alcantara in Maalaala Mo Kaya played by the actor himself. JC dramatized his life before he got into showbiz, striving for acting, and how he was rejected several times before being given a big break in showbiz.
The new actor is joined by real-life couple Precious Lara Quigaman and Marco Alcaraz who acted as his parents. JC is known for his role in the LGBT-themed series “Hello, Stranger”.
However, an intriguing post circulated online that MMK allegedly abused our Muslim brothers and sisters because they make a doormat out to the sacred prayer mat.
Muslims also have different designs of “prayer mats”, but they consider prayer mats to be sacred with the design of “Mecca” – the holy place in the Islamic religion. In the said episode of MMK, the prayer mat with the design of Mecca was the doormat they used.
The MMK production team also did not know what happened. But they should be careful especially since it has a design of the holy worship of the Muslims.
As a result, MMK has released a statement apologizing for their lapses in the making of the said episode. On the official page of MMK, they express deep regrets in last Saturday’s episode.
ABS-CBN production previously received complaints several times for allegedly insulting Filipino cultures. In 2018, Indigenous groups also complained about the use of the word “Bagani” for the Kapamilya series Bagani starring Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil.
