ICHRP Urges To End Red-Tagging Activities, Systematic State Murder

RED-TAGGING – The International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines recently urged to end red-tagging activities in the country.

The coalition emphasized the need for the international community to step in and deal with several vioaltions on human rights, according to a report from Manila Bulletin.

ICHRP chairman Peter Murphy said that he has already heralded more targeted state political killings, massacres, continuous police killings of the poor, and a threat of mass arrests of leaders and members of red-tagged organizations.

Murphy noted the case of Federico Pineda, a construction worker who was killed by a police officer in Sta. Rita, Pampanga after he was mistaken as a robber. In the incident, Pineda came from his daughter’s seventh birth anniversary prior to the incident.

Murphy likened the current situation of the Philippines to that of US President Donald Trump with his recent blatant assault on the US Congress.

“Trump has demonstrated what happens when impunity is the rule of the day,”

“The international community must act against impunity of state actors in the Philippines to stop a greater tragedy unfolding in this nation which once fired the global imagination with the ‘people power’ removal of the Dictator Marcos in 1986,”
