Barangay Chair, 3 Others Killed In Ambush In Tipo-Tipo, Basilan

BASILAN – A barangay chairperson and his three companions were killed in an ASG ambush in Barangay Banah in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan on Saturday.

According to a report from Manila Bulletin, Malata Barangay Chairperson Bin Saudi Sarakil of Ungkaya Pukan town was onboard a car with three companions in Sitio Banah when they were ambushed by members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).

The Armed Force of the Philippines’ Western Mindanao Command (AFP-WestMinCom) Commander Lt Gen Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said that the four victims died on the spot due to gunshot wounds that were sustained during the ambush.

Soldiers from the the18th Infantry Battalion responded to the area after hearing the burst of automatic gunfire at Sitio Bacud in Barangay Banah in the municipality of Tipo-Tipo.

“Our troops from the 18th Infantry Battalion immediately responded to the area and found the bodies of the victims bathed with their owned blood,”

Joint Task Force (JTF) Basilan Commander Col. Domingo Gobway said that the victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds on the different parts of their bodies, resulting their death.

“We are still conducting the in-depth investigation as to whose (ASG) followers were responsible in the ambushed,”

Based on the report, the town of Tipo-Tipo and Unkaya Pukan in the province were identified as the stronghold of the ASG.
