Quiapo Church Appeals to Gov’t to Expand Maximum Capacity Up to 50% During the Feast of the Black Nazarene
The Quiapo Church is requesting the Philippine government to expand the maximum capacity to 50 percent during the Traslacion 2021.
On Tuesday (January 5, 2021), the parochial vicar of Quiapo Church appealed to expand the maximum capacity up to 50 percent for the Feast of the Black Nazarene. Areas under general community quarantine only allow Churches to have 30 percent maximum capacity.
Fr. Douglas Badong wants to accommodate more devotees inside the church. He also assured the authorities that churches would observe the safety protocols including the physical distancing measure during the religious event.
“Sana po ma-consider lang na mapayagan kahit 50 percent para mas marami ang ma-accommodate sa loob ng simbahan at tinititiyak naman namin na mayroong social distancing sa loob,” Father Badong said.
Minor Basilica’s rector Rev. Msgr. Hernando Coronel announced that 15 masses will be held during the Traslacion 2021 to prevent huge crowd from gathering in Quiapo church. The wooden statue would be displayed at the balcony of the church.
The Church would also held ‘paying of tribute’ instead of “Pahalik”, so people could visit the image anytime and wave their handkerchiefs as a tribute. Badong also invited the devotees to join the event in their local parish or even at home.
“Wala mang prusisyon pero tuloy ang selebrasyon. Wala tayong ibang kakapitan kundi ang Poong Nazareno,” Badong added.
