2 Cops in Quezon City Demoted After Making Unlawful Arrest, Mayor Joy Belmonte Says

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte announced that two cops have been demoted over unlawful arrest without proper warrants.

The city mayor identified the cops as Patrolmen Zaldy Mejos Jr. and Julie Boison. Mejos and Boison have been demoted by one rank due to grave misconduct after arresting a suspect without proper warrants.

The city’s People’s Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) District 1 found the cops guilty after Marissa Torres filed a complaint against them. Torres has been arrested by the two policemen last January 19, 2019 at her home.

However, the two policemen denied the accusations and said that Torres has a gun at her black sling bag. The suspect was at her sari-sari store when the cops entered the residence for a search.

The police officers said that they arrested Torres for having a gun and alleged illegal drugs. The suspect denied the accusations and explained that the gun and drugs have been planted by the cops.

PLEB Executive Officer Atty. Rafael Calinisan said that the cops illegally arrested Torres and searched her house without a warrant.
