PNP Suspends Issuance Of Permits For Fireworks Displays
PNP – The Philippine National Police (PNP) recently suspended the issuance of permits for conducting fireworks displays
According to SunStar, the agency’s Firearms and Explosive Office made the suspension in anticipation of a total firecracker ban in the capital as a means of preventing the transmission of COVID-19.
Brigadier General Rommil Mitra, however, said that they already issued said permits in the following:
- Gateway tower in Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City on December 19, 25, 26 and January 1
- Rockwell Powerplant in Makati City on Christmas and New Year’s Eve
- Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Pasay City on December 31, 2020.
Mitra added that the fireworks display in the said areas will push through.
The agency’s directorate for Operations chief Major General Alfred Corpuz said that they will deploy more policemen at these areas to ensure that health protocols will be complied.
PNP Chief Debold Sinas said that they are ready to implement a total firecracker ban in the capital, adding that they are waiting for the capital mayors to issue a resolution for immediate implementation.
“Lahat po ‘yan ipapasara natin ‘yung nagbebenta at lahat ng may hawak ay huhulihin natin sila,”
Among the prohibited firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices include those which are overweight or with more than 1/3 teaspoon or more than 0.2 grams of explosives, oversized, those with small fuse and can be burned in less than three seconds but not more than six seconds, imported and without proper label and those mixed with sulphur or phosphorus with chlorates.
Based on the report, the Department of Health (DOH) earlier urged the public to use alternative noisemakers to welcome the upcoming year 2021
The health department also discourage the use of torotot and whistles to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
