SPUTNIK V – President Vladimir Putin praised Russia for its COVID-19 response and announced that he’ll be vaccinated with Sputnik V.

Previously, Sputnik V and China’s Sinovac vaccine were among the leading names in the COVID-19 vaccine race. However, most western countries were speculative of Russia’s vaccine due to an alleged lack of transparency with test results.

Still, Putin seemed confident enough with the vaccine and stated that he himself would get a jab. Furthermore, Putin also boasted that Russia’s pandemic response was better than many Western countries.

But, during his marathon press conference, Putin emphasized that the vaccine currently available to the public were indented for a certain age group. Furthermore, he said that these vaccines have yet to reach him.

Additionally, Putin asserted that he respects laws, health protocols, and recommendations from medical experts. Therefore, for the moment, Putin had yet to be vaccinated with Sputnik V. However, Putin said that he’d do it “As soon as possible”.

Moreover, the President claimed that their vaccine is safe and effective with a 96 to 97 percent protection rate. Along with this, Putin said that amongst all volunteers who took the vaccine, none had serious case of side effects.
