San Miguel Corporation financial assistance offered to the victims of Skyway accident was rejected by the family of one victim.

Edison Paquibot was the only victim in the tragedy. He was riding his motorcycle to work when the incident happened on East Service Road in Sucat, Muntinlupa last month, based on the ABS-CBN News report.

Edison Paquibot’s family lawyer clarified that although they were offered SMC cash assistance, this does not mean that they have already received the money. Apart from the funeral expenses, the victim’s family did not receive any money from the SMC.

Atty. Jeamie Salvatierra also said that Paquibot’s wife, Marilou, was hesitant to accept the money because it might mean that she was giving up her right to file a complaint against those involved in the tragedy.

“Hindi kasi tama iyong ‘received’ na word when in fact it is just being offered because ‘RSA personally wanted to help’ daw. I cannot confirm nor deny as to the other victims. But in our case, wala,” explained by the legal counsel of the Paquibot family.

“We just wanted to confirm mainly na a certain amount has been offered but not yet received or given, since ayaw naman namin ma-compromise ang case,” the lawyer added.

Earlier, Ramon Ang said last week that they were offering P20-M financial aid to the victims of the accident. This is in addition to the medical expenses and other expenses incurred by EEI Corp, the project contractor.

Ang also said that a large portion of P20 million will go to support Paquibot’s family. He promised to meet the needs of the orphans and educate them until the victim’s 4-year-old son graduates from college.

Meanwhile, SMC clarified again that they did not say that the Paquibot family accepted their offer; rather they just want to convey that they are ready to help at any time.
