Skyway Accident Victims Will Received P20-M Cash Aid from San Miguel Corp.

Victims from the accident that happened at the Skyway Extension project site will receive P20 million cash aid from the San Miguel Corporation.

On November 21, 2020, the Skyway accident happened left one dead and four residents injured. According to our previous article, the crane tilted and fell on the girder, which hit several vehicles and motorcycles along the road.

The girder with the length of two posts of the northbound lane causes injuries to several residents and motorists. SMC has issued a public apology to the victims.

Meanwhile, the SMC release a statement that the amount for medical and other expenses is shouldered by its Skyway project contractor EEi Corp. They will provide P20 million cash assistance to the family of victims.

“I’ve been deeply affected by the pain this has caused them and has been assessing different ways to assist the victims of this unfortunate accident, apart from what our contractor EEI has been providing them,” SMC president and COO Ramon Ang said.

I hope this amount would be a step towards helping them rebuild their lives. With the right support, we can all overcome adversity and lead full lives,” he added.

Ang said a significant portion of the package will go to long-term support for the family of the deceased Edison Paquibot. Ang promised to take care of all the family’s needs, including the education of Paquibot’s four-year-old daughter.

“Following the accident, I was able to speak directly to the wife. It’s very painful to suddenly lose a loved one. I promised her that I would take care of them, especially their child’s education until she graduates from college. It will be as if they still have family supporting them,” Ang said.

Aside from financial assistance for their monthly needs and providing for the child’s education, the SMC chief also said that the company will provide economic support to the wife. The victims received their cash assistance recently and are grateful for the early Christmas gift, according to SMC.
