Sorsogon Hit by Earthquake with 5.4 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.4 magnitude quake in Sorsogon, December 7, 2020.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“. But the agency advises the people to wait for factual information and not to panic.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Sorsogon. At 10:37 pm, December 7, 2020, Prieto Diaz was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Sorsogon was located at 13.09°North, 124.53°East – 037 km North 82° East of Prieto Diaz. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 077 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that no damage is expected of the said quake and as well as aftershocks. The following intensities were recorded:
- Intensity V
- Sorsogon City
- Intensity IV
- Legazpi City
- Virac, Catanduanes
- Naga City
- Northern Samar
- Intensity III
- Bulusan, Sorsogon
- Irosin, Sorsogon
- Catbalogan City
- Intensity II
- Dagami, Leyte
