Palace Afraid Of Backlash If Officials Get First Shots Of Vaccine
PALACE AFRAID OF BACKLASH – Amid news that the government planned to procure controversial COVID-19 vaccines from Russia and China, the public urged government officials to take the vaccine first.
Recently, even Senator Bong Go urged Health Secretary Francisco Duque to take the vaccine first to show its safety. However, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque clarified that it would be up to the officials if they wanted to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
But, amid the calls, Roque said that the Palace may receive backlash if officials secure the first shots of the new vaccines. According to an article from GMA, Roque said:
“Kung mayroon pong ilang mga matataas na opisyales na nais na magpaturok para magsilbing halimbawa na wala naman pong masamang epekto sa kanila ang bakuna, we welcome that…
Pero gaya ng aking sinabi po, tandaan ninyo ‘pag nangyari iyan, iyong oposisyon sasabihin na naman mayroong VIP treatment.“

Meanwhile, as a response to Go’s challenge, Duque said that he’d “definitely” get vaccinated when the vaccines come. In fact, Duque urged his fellow Cabinet members to do the same.
Additionally, Roque emphasized that even the President himself is willing to get injected with the vaccine when it becomes available and authorized by the FDA. Still, despite the controversy around the vaccines from Russia and China, Roque said President Duterte was ready to show the effectiveness of the vaccine.
“Ito po’y dumaan sa expert panel group nang pinakadalubhasang Pilipino, at iyan po ay comes with their highest endorsement na ligtas at epektibo“, said the Spokesperson.
