Philippine National Police chief Debold Sinas defends predawn serving of search of warrants saying “Para hindi matiktikan at malaman”.
On Thursday (December 3, 2020), PNP chief Sinas explained that the serving of search warrants against the two peace consultants during wee hours of early dawn aims to prevent them from running away.
The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) consultants Eugenia Magpantay and Agaton Topacio died during an encounter in Angono, Rizal. The cops served the search warrant at 3:00 am in the morning.
“Kaya nga madaling araw para hindi matiktikan at malaman. Kasi imagine mo, kung mag-search kami ng umaga, makita ng buong kabayanan nila, baka may mga spotter sila, baka may mga contact sila, so pag dating naming dun, nakatakas na sila,” Sinas said.
Sinas that surprise operation during unexpected hours could prevent the suspects from escaping. “Kaya ganun ang ginamit nating approach para hindi nila alam kalian at anong oras mag-conduct ng search,” the PNP executive added.
The high-ranking police official also said that the Philippine National Police would investigate the death of the peace consultants.

Magpantay and Topacio who were both 69 years old have retired from their job due to their old age. Magpantay is reportedly suffering from severe arthritis and diabetes, according to the Communist Party of the Philippines.
