Illness Hits Flood Victims in Cagayan, Baggao Town Mayor Joan Dunuan Says
Baggao town Mayor reported that illness strikes the flood victims in Cagayan and now needs medicine, blankets, relief goods and housing materials.
On Monday (November 16, 2020), Baggao town Mayor Joan Dunuan said that the town is now needing medicines as some residents in the areas are already suffering from illnesses. The residents are reportedly experiencing colds and other diseases.
The town mayor also said that several roads in the area remain impassable due to the effects of the flood. The authorities are still conducting an ongoing clearing operations. They could not transport patients to Tuguegarao for treatment.
“Wala ho kaming hospital na malaki, di masyado makapagdala ng pasyente agad-agad sa Tuguegarao, hirap pa po silang makapenetrate sa lugar namin kasi meron kaming 1 national road na natakpan po ng 1 buong bundok…ongoing po ang clearing. Bago lang din po nagsubside ang mga tubig baha sa mga kalapit na munisipyo naming,” Dunuan said.
Dunuan said that around 265 residents have already evacuated due to the threat of landslide since most houses in the area were made of light materials. The severe flooding washed out the houses.
The national disaster council recorded a total of 67 fatalities due to the effects of Typhoon Ulysses. 4 residents died in Baggao town while the total deaths in the province reached 10.
