Cagayan Valley & Isabela Flood, Malacanang Releases Statement

Here’s statement from Malacanang over severe flooding in Cagayan Valley and Isabela.

CALAGAYAN VALLEY – With the severe and widespread flooding in Isabela and Cagayan, Malacanang released statement over rescue operations conducted.

In an update, it has been announced already that Cagayan province is now under state of calamity due to widespread and severe flooding that took place from intense raining including the heavy downpour from Typhoon Ulysses. Parts of Luzon such as Metro Manila, Cagayan Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, and Cordillera Region facing worse than Ondoy floods and continues to appeal for food and relief good donation for survival.

In Isabela, over 140,000 people have been affected waiting for help and rescue as some remained stranded in their rooftops. Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba shared that they have anticipated the flood but did not expect that it would be that big, thus, the preparation they did isn’t enough.

Now, with regards to the government’s rescue operation for the stranded people in the region, they gave an update in a statement through Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque. Accordingly, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) hand in hand with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have been “working round the clock for rescue operations” in the following areas early yesterday:

  • Modelro, Sitio Pantalan, and Pantabangan in Tumauini, Isabela
  • Brgy 12, Pengue Ruyu, Caritan Norte, Diversion Road, Anufuan West, and Linao East in Tuguegarao City

In November 14:

  • PCG deployed first convoy of augmentation composed of 10 rescue personnel, a multipurpose vehicle, a truck, and rubber boats around 3:30 A.M. and the second one was deployed at 9 A.M. to aid operations in Cagayan, Isabela, and Tuguegarao
  • Another convoy included two helicopters from Coast Guard Aviation Force to Cagayan and Isabela for rescue and aerial extractions efforts
