According to an article from CNN, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said they would hire 10,000 flood victims from the flood-hit Cagayan and Isabela. This would be thanks to the initiatives of the Tulong Panghanap-Buhay sa Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers or the agency’s TUPAD program.

“Sa TUPAD, ito iyong ating emergency employment program, binigyan po namin ng authority si Governor Mamba na mag-hire ng 5,000 tao para maglinis at mag-ayos sa lalawigan ng Cagayan“, said Bello.

Furthermore, DOLE also promised to provide emergency employment to around 5,000 victims from Bohol. Along with this, areas such as Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, and Masbate would also be given priority after being severely hit by Typhoon Ulysses.

As per the article, the TUPAD program offers displaced workers a minimum 10 day work-period. However, the maximum number of days worked would not exceed 30 days depending on the job.

Primarily, the jobs fall under community projects such as repairing and maintenance of public facilities. Additionally, maintenance of the agro-forestry community such as tree planting and reforestation are also inclded.
