Update on Cebu Sinulog Festival 2021 Amid COVID-19 Pandemic
CEBU SINULOG FESTIVAL 2021 – The officials of Cebu released an update on the Sinulog Festival celebration this year.
Undeniably, one of the most-awaited festivals in the Philippines is the Sinulog Festival. There are at least two celebrations of the said feast – in Cebu City, Cebu and in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
The said festival is a religious feast venerating the Santo Niño. There are a lot of activities done during the celebration including the fluvial parade and the dance parade.
The Sinulog Festival is usually celebrated in the month of January. However, there may be changes now as the country fights against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the officials of Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebú, local government, Interagency Task Force (IATF), Cebu City Police Office and the city committee of public order have decided to postpone some activities of Cebu Sinulog Festival 2021.
The following activities set for the 456th Fiesta Señor Celebration will not be held on January 17 instead in April 2021:
- Penitential walk with Jesus on the opening salvo
- Penitential walk with Mary on the last day of the novena
- Traslacion of the images of the Santo Niño and our Lady of Guadalupe from Cebu City to Mandaue City, and from Mandaue City to Lapu-Lapu City
- Fluvial procession and the reenactment of the first baptism, planting of the cross, and first wedding
- Solemn foot procession
- Proposed Cebu provincial pilgrimages
Also, based on the report, the officials have decided not to allow motorcades as a substitute for the postponed activities for the Cebu Sinulog Festival 2021. The novena will start on January 8, 2021.
