According to PhilStar, policemen have reported that the former convicts and members of a group engaged in contract killing.

They were in a Ford Fiesta when they were pulled over at a checkpoint along the Manila South Road in Barangay San Antonio at 12 AM.

The said checkpoint was set up after officials got a tip that contract killers were out to kill a city official. The fatalities allegedly opened fire at officials manning the checkpoint and sped away toward the Mamplasan South Luzon Expressway tollgate.

Operatives from the Highway Patrol Group and Biñan police cornered the suspects, who returned fire at them again, resulting in a gunfight. This was reported by G chief Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum.

Recovered from the suspects were two handguns, bullet shells, fake identification cards and fake vehicle plates, according to the report.
