Northern Samar Hit by Earthquake with 4.2 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Northern Samar, October 31, 2020.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“. But the agency advises the people to wait for factual information and not to panic.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Northern Samar. At 04:32 am, October 31, 2020, Mapanas was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Northern Samar was located at 12.46°North, 125.47°East – 023 km South 86° East of Mapanas. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 001 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that no damage is expected of the said quake and as well as aftershocks. No intensity was recorded in the epicenter of the said quake nor the nearby areas of the location hit.
