Pres. Duterte To Look for Fund To Pay for PhilHealth Bill To Red Cross
DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte broke his silence on the payment issue between PhilHealth and the Philippine Red Cross.
Recently, the Philippine Red Cross stopped processing the swab test specimens of the overseas Filipino workers, the COVID-19 frontliners, and those who are covered by the guidelines of the Department of Health (DOH).
The move of Red Cross is due to the outstanding bill of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or more commonly called as PhilHealth. The bill has reached Php 930 million.
Senator Richard Gordon, the chairman of the non-government organizations, wants PhilHealth to be investigated over its non-payment to Red Cross. The issue has affected several other government agencies including the Philippine Coast Guard.
The PCG is processing the documents of the OFWs manually as it no longer pass through the computerized system of Red Cross. Also, swab specimens were transferred to big laboratories and hospitals for the mean time.
Recently, in his late-night televised national address, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte broke his silence on the issue involving PhilHealth and Red Cross. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the President said that he will find money to pay for PhilHealth’s bill to Red Cross.
“Ditong Red Cross, h’wag kang mag-alala, mabayaran ito. We’re just looking for a way to present the solution to sa COA,” the President said.
Based on the report, Pres. Duterte said that finding fund for the PhilHealth bill to Red Cross may take time but they will pay. He stressed that medical treatment is a priority of the government.
The President further said that money has always been a problem. According to him, the government is stretching all its resources to cope and make ends meet.
